Set screws have forged sockets, insuring maximum strength and resistance to cracking in the corners. Smooth, flat, deep sockets, free of machining tears or roach chips.
Less grain is exposed with forging making screws less likely to have hydrogen embrittlement. Socket walls are much stronger than those created by drill and broach method thereby reducing potential for failure. Threads on set screws are either rolled or ground, depending on size limitation. Set screws are available in coarse and fine threads with points in the following configurations: cup and knurl.
Cup Point: It is employed where the quick and more or less permanent location of pulleys, collars, etc on soft shaft is required. It should not be used against other shafts or other parts which have been hardened.
We offer them in a 12.9 Grade with a Black-Oxide Finish
